WHAT WE DO
RAMS Bringing Security is in collaboration with Girls Build to help the less fortunate in our community by providing food security.
MISSION STATEMENT
Food insecurity is something we see commonly within our community, we recognize the stress generated from being unable to afford food and other expenses. Food insecurity is an issue that had accelerated growth during the pandemic: Unemployment rates surged, financial stability became difficult to maintain, many found themselves with limited money for food. Even now, we continue to see impacts on food security relating to the pandemic (e.g. inflation). Our organization focuses on easing the burden of households in L.A. with limited access to quality food, by raising money with bake sales, popcorn sales, or other fundraising events. The revenue generated, will be used to buy quality groceries that will be distributed to those in need. Since COVID-19’s public health emergency was lifted by the U.S. on January 31, 2020: food insecurity rates increased. Our home of Los Angeles (L.A.), was not exempt from this. According to USC Dornslife reports: During 2020, from April to December, 34% of households in L.A. had undergone food insecurity. Though there had been improvements in 2021, the trajectory has changed. It is stated in The Daily Trojan by the University of Southern California, from 2022 to now, food insecurity rates in L.A. have increased from 24% to 30%. Currently, 1.2 million Angelenos are experiencing food insecurity. Food insecurity can lead to a higher risk of chronic and mental illness, which is a detriment to the overall wellness of our communities. Thus, we need to take action to keep our community healthy.
